Image Hosting Questions

Q: How do I attach my images to an auction?

A: If you plan to use eBay or Amazon, our system can automate this process. Visit the manage images section, and use the check boxes there to select the image(s) that you'd like to add. Near the bottom, you can fill out the form for the auction site in question, and our system will get those added for you. If you are using an auction site that we do not directly support, you can still attach the images, although it will need to be done manually. You will first need to aquire the URL from your manage images section. That URL is part of some HTML that you will need to add to the item description, and it will look like this:

<IMG SRC="http://images.honesty.com/cgi-bin/honesty-image.cgi?image=000000">

Q: Why is my image broken?

A: There are several reason why your image may be broken:

  1. The image is in a format that your browser does not recognize. When uploading, you should always try and stick with either GIF or JPG images. We accept BMP and TIF as well, but these are not compatible with some browsers, such as netscape.
  2. The image was linked improperly. Our system will handle the attaching of your images for the most part, but there are times when you need to do it yourself. Verify that you have the correct URL by visiting your manage images section. Then verify that your HTML is correct, and it should look like this:

    <IMG SRC="http://images.honesty.com/cgi-bin/honesty-image.cgi?image=000000">

  3. The image was deleted. We do not delete your images automatically, but it can sometimes happen on accident when your using your manage images section. In this case, we offer the Restore Images page, that allows you to recover the images for up to 7 days after deletion.

Q: My images are taking forever, how can I make them faster?

A: For the most part, your image speed will rely heavily on how well you edited it prior to upload. You may need to crop and resize prior to sending us an image. Our IMAGE EDITING TUTORIAL will show you how to optimize your images.

Q: How do I replace an image on an auction?

A: If the item has no bids yet, you can go to eBay and use the revise link. In the description area, look for the link containing "images.honesty.com". By removing that line of code, the image will be totally removed from your listing. If the item does have bids, you will need to visit your Manage Images section, where you can delete the old image. This will leave you a broken image icon on the listing, but will not slow it down at all. After this is done, you can then use the manage images section to attach new images.

Q: I'm using WebTV and my images are distorted, why?

A: You will want to use our special WebTV image uploading page, and this will prevent the image distortion that you see.

Q: I added images from your site, why don't I have the camera icon in eBay's search engine?

A: eBay uses very specific portion of the listing form to determine if this icom will show up or not. On both our one-step lister and eBay's selling form, there is a "Picture URL" box that must contain something to grant a camera icon. While using our listing form, you have several options. You can put any image here, or you can select to have your counter show here. With eBay's listing form, its often easier to use this URL:

http://images.honesty.com/imagedata/bannerdata/blank.gif

This invisible dot will grant you a camera icon, and still allow you to attach your images from our site later.

Counter Questions

Q: My counter and your view counters page do not match, whats up?

A: Some browser and internet providers will store web content, and then reuse it later. With a counter that constantly changes, this type of behaviour is usually not desired. For the most part, you can hold down shift and then hit the Refresh or Reload button in your browser (Usually along the top with the Back/Forward/Stop buttons)

Q: How do I handle my relisted items with counters?

A: When you relist your items, you won't need to add a new counter. Our system will automatically recycle the old one for you once the item gets viewed for the first time. You may see an Add counter link on your view counters page, but this can be ignored. Since the 'recycle' process is not immediate, our system will not detect the old counter until the item gets viewed.

If the date the counter was added is a concern, then you can removed that from your listing. When you relist, look in the description area for the line "On XXX date, seller added the following...". You can remove this line, without affecting the counter's ability to recycle.

Q: Why does my counter always show up in between the pictures?

A: Our system has no control over the counter placement, because of the way that eBay lays out your page. Your description is displayed first, and the primary picture is always displayed last. This forces the counter, being at the end of the description, to display before the picture. A good way around this is to use a blank image for your primary picture, and then list all your pictures in the description with image tags. eBay provides a blank picture for it's users at:

http://pics.ebay.com/aw/pics/dot_clear.gif

Q: I need to remove a counter from my auction, how do I do it?

A: If the item has already received bids, the auction cannot be modified and the counter(s) cannot be removed. Otherwise:

  1. First go to your auction, and revise the item
  2. Go into the text box with your description. The counter will have a start and end tag.
  3. You can remove all of the text between the tags for each counter you wish to remove.
  4. Click on the review button and verify that everything is correct. If so, submit the changes.

Q: I want to add a counter to my personal page, or an auction that you do not support.

A: For this, you will need our web counters. When you generate them, our system will give you the HTML code that can be added to either your page or auction. This code will only be good for one use, but you can generate multiple counters if needed. When adding to a personal page, you have to be especially careful, because of the way that web editing software works. You may need a special "Insert HTML" option, or you can edit the source directly to insert the code.

Q: My auction closed while I was away from the computer, where did all my information go?

A: The view counters page offers you an "Auction History" option that will work for most auction sites. This allows you to see up to 30 days worth of closed auctions, along with the count and statistical information.
